Villa Brignole is a lovely, completely restructured "Casa Vacanza" or Holiday Home in the Chianti region just a few km from Siena, with several brand new Holiday Apartments at your disposal. The apartments are located in an ancient Villa dating back to the beginning of the 15th century, situated on the hill where the famous "Battle of Monteaperti" took place ; an important location of historical interest due to this particular battle between the "Guelphes" and the "Ghibellins".

Colle Val d�Elsa

While heading in a rush towards the well-known towns of San Gimignano and Monteriggioni, many travellers go past the ancient walls of Colle Val d�Elsa thinking that the town is not worth visiting. Colle Val d�Elsa is, on the contrary, one of the many precious walled villages near Siena that treasures suggestive corners and curiosities not to be missed. First of all, the town is known as the �Town of Crystal� : a secular, hand-crafted tradition (today also an industrial one) has brought the crystal glass-ware and art of Colle Val d�Elsa all over the world. 85% of the crystal produced in Italy and 15% of the world production come from this little town. The local work-shops in the old part of town represent an irresistible temptation to those who want to bring home a unique, precious (and expensive) souvenir. There is a museum at disposal for those who want to learn more about how crystal is made. While shopping and/or window-shopping one can admire the medieval town and the castle, that can be reached from the Ponte della Campana (the Bridge of the Bell) ; one of the most evocative corners of Colle Val d�Elsa. From here you enter the antique heart of Colle, with magnificent 15th and 16th-century noble houses and the fascinating tower-house where the famous architect and sculptore Arnolfo di Cambio was born.

Abbazia di Monte Oliveto

Founded in 1313 by San Bernardo Tolomei, exponent of one of the most influential Sienese families and strict observer of the Rule of St. Benedict (Ora et labora), the Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore arose on a hill defended on three sides by insurmountable precipices. Today the Abbey is seat of the Benedictine Congregation of Monte Oliveto Maggiore which houses an institute that restores books. The marvel of the monastery is the Great Cloister with its many frescoes recounting the life of St. Benedict. From here you have access to the Church from the 15 Century, with one central nave. The interior of the Church was redesigned in a baroque style at the end of the 18 Century. There are a number of works of art to take note of, among which one of Europe�s most important inlays : the choir stalls inlaid by Fra Giovanni da Verona. From the Middle Cloister the stairs leading to the first floor are decorated by Sodoma�s fresco depicting the Coronation of Mary and the Deposition by an unknown artist. The stairs leads you to the monastery�s Library and Pharmacy which houses, in 17th century vases, a rich collection of medicinal herbs.

Montalcino

Montalcino, located on a high hill on which its 14th century Fortress looms atop the highest point, has stunning views onto the valleys of Ombrone and Asso. The history of Montalcino recounts long periods of peace and prosperity interrupted by a number of extremely violent episodes ; its fortune, however, has always been the precious location on fertile soil with highly productive vines. It is indeed the production of wine - as for example Il Rosso, St. Antimo and the highly renowned Brunello - that has made the territory of Montalcino famous and honoured world-wide. The town is still surrounded by medieval walls, and while strolling by artisan work-shops and small caf�s (or �bar�, as they are called in Italy) one can admire the Palazzo Comunale, the Churches of St. Agostine, St. Egidio and St. Francesco. Important Sienese pieces of art from the 12 to the 19 century are to be admired in Montalcino�s museums located in the Palazzo Vescovile. A little outside the town, in Castelnuovo dell�Abbate, you can lull yourself in the magical atmosphere that surrounds the Abbey of St. Antimo, founded by Charlemagne in 781.

From the A1 from North or South exit at Valdichiana � Bettolle � Sinalunga and pay at the toll booth.

Follow the signs for Siena which will bring you onto the four-lane highway called Raccordo Siena-Bettolle.

Exit the four-lane highway at Casetta � Monteaperti ; at the round-a-bout ignore the viaduct to your right and take the first exit in direction of Monteaperti SSP111 and continue for approx. 2,5 km. The straight stretch of the road will at a certain point lead up-hill, and you will find the entrance to the Villa to your left.

The narrow alley of cypresses will lead you to a large, private parking space among olive trees belonging to the property.
